su dnf install samba firewall-cmd --add-service=samba --permanent firewall-cmd --reload cd /etc/samba cp /u8/root_f41/etc/samba/smb.conf . cd /var/lib/samba/private cp /u8/root_f41/var/lib/samba/private/passdb.tdb . cp /u8/root_f41/var/lib/samba/private/secrets.tdb .Now we start the service:
systemctl enable smb.service systemctl restart smb.serviceThere it is, short and sweet. I need windows to work in order to test it, but it has launched some horrible full screen warning about my need to upgrade to Windows 11, so I have to get rid of that before I will know if this worked.
It basically tells me that I need to buy a new PC. My hardware won't run Windows 11 and updates for Windows 10 will end on October 24, 2025.
Windows tells me the P: folder is unavailable. I reboot and it wants to install updates. It may be a good thing when Windows 10 no longer gets updates.
It is almost unbelievable. I think it was 2 hours ago I wanted to just turn on my Windows machine and edit two images with lightroom. This samba setup on linux took less than 10 minutes (including time to look up what to do). It is hard to believe that they charge money for this -- and that people pay it.
