Grass GIS

Grass (Geographic Resources Analysis Support System) is open source GIS software.

Don't waste your time. Use and learn QGIS.

Grass is old, weird, and funky, dating from pre 1990. As a quick test, I searched on "import PDF into grass" and found nothing. With QGIS, the same search yields plenty of information. Grass has grown stale and dormant. Perhaps it makes sense for some handful of old timers to continue using it if they are familiary with it, but nobody new to GIS should waste time with it.

The development of Grass began in 1982 by the US Army Corps of Engineers. Details are available on the Grass history page.
