Drawing (sometimes with pens)

I started looking into dip pens. I bought a Sailor Hocoro, mostly with the idea of being able to try different inks without needing to clean out and load up a fountain pen. Then I discovered that artists use dip pens. Often they use Speedball nibs in a holder. I bought a Speedball 101, and also a box of vintage Esterbrook 048 Falcon "pens". I was pleased that both fit into a handle I already have.

This led (or leads) to the whole subject of drawing and in my case, learning how to draw.

It is said that drawing is a skill, not a talent. This is extremely encouraging as it means that it is something that anyone can learn how to do, not something restricted to the magically endowed.

I have a friend who is an accomplished artist. I recently had the chance to briefly talk with her, which yielded two interesting tips:

It is good to draw with a pen! It teaches you do "get it right the first time" and to just move forward. I had figured that the game would be drawing first in pencil and then inking over that later.

She recommended the book "Drawing on the right side of the brain". Yes, the whole right/left side brain thing is now debunked, but see my essay below.
